Tours

The Primate Research Center welcomes:

Elementary and middle school tours for children in the fourth grade and older

Featuring monkey behavior. Following a slide presentation on monkey behavior, children visit outdoor corrals to observe the center's rhesus and Japanese snow monkeys. (Allow 1½ hrs.)

High school tours

Highlighting scientific research. Following a presentation on current center research projects, students tour selected labs and conclude their visit by observing rhesus and Japanese snow monkeys in outdoor enclosures. Occasionally, scientists are able to meet with classes having specific interests in their research fields.

Because laboratories and observation rooms are small, the ideal size of a group tour is 25-30 students.

Organization tours

Highlighting scientific research. Following a presentation on current center research projects, visitors tour selected labs and conclude their visit by observing rhesus and Japanese snow monkeys in outdoor enclosures.

Public tours

Individuals and family groups may sign up for public tours that are scheduled whenever at least 20 persons are on the invitation list. The tour includes a slide presentation outlining research projects at the Center, and a visit to the outdoor shelters and corrals to observe rhesus and Japanese macaques.

All tours provide an opportunity to learn more about the role of nonhuman primates in biomedical research and to observe nonhuman primate behavior.
